Using an Online Dating Service

By Jason Hulott With research showing that around 30% of us are looking online for friendship and/or romance, then using an Online Dating Service no longer has the stigma attached to it that it used to have say six or seven years ago. Using online dating and friendship sites are now an accepted way of meeting people, whether you are purely looking to increase your social circle and find people with similar tastes and interests to you or whether you are looking for romance or even more! Meeting people online is a popular and safe way to meet like-minded people forget smoky nightclubs and the bubble bursting when the person who looks like the type you want to get to know better turns out to have completely different ideals and interests to you. Once youve met a few people who sound nice, you are in control of how the situation goes, so you can go at your own pace, chatting online or sending an email until you decide it is time to speak on the phone or meet up if at all. The beauty of making friends online is that you can do it any time of day or night. It is great if you are a single parent and unable to go out; if you work unsociable hours; or if the idea of going out to clubs and bars makes you think meat market. Dating or meeting people on the Web means you can get to know someone really well before you meet up so that you can se that your tastes, intellect and ideals are the same. So, how can you make the most out of using a online dating service (and remember, just because it has the word dating in it, doesnt mean that you cannot meet people for friendship on there)? First of all, to find a site, do a search using a search engine and type in words and phrases such as online friendship, online dating, meet people online etc. You can then visit a few sites to see how they operate and to see which ones you feel comfortable with. Once youve found one – or even two or three! websites you like the look of, you can register your details (most will allow you to register free) and then start meeting and chatting to people online. Many also have offline activities, such as met ups in pubs, and organised events, which is a great way to go out without any pressure to meet anyone. It can also help you to put a face to a name if you have been chatting online for a while to someone! If you do decide to meet someone on a one-to-one basis, then of course you should employ all the common sense safety precautions youd do normally such as meeting in a busy place and telling people where you are going etc. Sadly, meeting people online does not mean youll never meet an unscrupulous person again. The positive new is that online dating and friendship sites have spawned a great many marriages, babies and strong friendships, so if there is a space in your life, going online could be the answer. Speak Up: Your Job Is At Stake!

By Dale Kurow How good are you at standing up for yourself? Do you run the other way when done an injustice or when someone steps on your proverbial toes? How do you react? Nows the time to speak up and stand your ground! If youve never done this, you need to master this skill. How many of you watched the The Apprentice? While the show is not the ultimate mirror of corporate life or a guide on how to be promoted, my clients have cited specific show episodes to highlight weaknesses theyd like to improve. In the Apprentice episode during which Jessie was fired, she remained silent in the boardroom while her team members were putting her down. Her reticence was THE reason that Trump fired her. She was timid, and her inability to defend herself made it appear that she agreed with her detractors. Have you declined to take a stand when you could have? How was that perceived? Heres a reality check for deciding whether or not to speak up: Fact #1: If you are silent when others are accusing you or impugning your words or deeds, you run the risk of appearing to agree. Fact #2: If you are silent when someone is making a move into your areas of responsibility, it will seem that you dont care. Fact #3: If you are silent because of fear of reprisal or worry about unleashing your temper, you will have lost an opportunity to defend and advance what you believe. Fact #4: Not speaking up is worse than making a case but not succeeding. Heres how this plays out in the workplace: If a new co-worker or competitor infringes upon your established area of responsibility and you say nothing, you run the risk of losing the business or job! Better to acknowledge the salvo and decide the best course of action. If its a co-worker, you could calmly confront the person and re-establish your territory and/or educate him/her on the best way to work with you. If its a competitor, ask your client if the account is in play. You might find that the competitor has put in an unsolicited bid for the business! You could then reinforce your position with the client by underscoring your loyalty to the team and how youve contributed to its success. Now for a specific example of the positive results of speaking up: When I worked in the HR department of a large corporation, my boss, the HR Director, received a poor performance appraisal. After his unsatisfactory review, he proceeded to demean and blame his staff, making snide remarks within earshot of the person he was singling out. This went on for several weeks until I couldnt stand it anymore. I told the VP HR, and he relocated the Director to another floor for the remainder of his time with the company. This experience resulted in the removal of a person who was demoralizing the entire HR department. Further, I was offered the HR Director job on an interim basis, which became permanent several months later. More importantly, I believe the VP-HR was impressed with my willingness to take a stand. The assertiveness I demonstrated was a trait that he valued and it established my ability to function successfully in a male-dominated department. Finally, speaking up serves a threefold purpose. It allows you to convincingly articulate your case. It provides a platform to exhibit a quality that your boss may highly prize. And if you succeed, it gives you the confidence to use your newfound voice in other areas of your life. The next time you want to speak up, role play your case ahead of time with a trusted friend or coach. You may have more to gain than you know. A Look at Soy Candle Making Supplies

By Thomas Morva Soy candle wax was only invented in 1991 but it has already become a very popular wax. There are a number of advantages to using soy wax. First, soy is a natural and long lasting. Soy wax is much less expensive than other natural waxes like bees wax. Soy candles also produce less soot than synthetic candle waxes. A man named Michael Richards invented soy candle wax in 1991. He had recently entered the candle making supply business earlier in the year. Richards noticed that there was a large consumer demand for natural waxes, but most people could not afford them. He experimented with the waxes and oils of many different plants before realizing that mixing soybean oil with palm oil and coconut oil made a great wax. He also mixed a small amount of bees wax into the mixture to make it an even better candle-making wax. By 1995 he had perfected the mix, when soy candle-making supply stores first appeared. Soy wax has many advantages over other types of candle-making wax. Soy wax is natural — it does not include petroleum or other environmentally unsafe ingredients that synthetic waxes may contain. Many soy candle-making supply shops only sell wax made with soybeans grown in the United States. Purchasing these supplies helps the farmers that grow the soybeans. Another advantage of soy wax over synthetic wax is that it gives off much less soot. There is less of a need to clean up after burning a soy wax candle, and there is no risk of the soot starting a fire. Soy wax is much less expensive than other natural waxes. It can cost less than half as much as beeswax. Candle makers who want to use a natural wax but cant afford bees wax are advised to try soy wax. Soy wax is a great alternative to synthetic wax. It is all-natural and is much less expensive than bees wax. Candle Making Supplies Info provides detailed information on wholesale, discount, soy, gel, and bee wax candle making supply, and more. Salmon Fishing

By Bob Matsen Where to fish for salmon or the Chinook or the king salmon. The pacific salmon range from California to Alaska. These anadromous species can be found in most pacific coastal waters, streams and rivers that have a good flow of water and temperature as well as a suitable habitat for going up to spawn. You will find that they may be as many as three spawns per year: spring, summer, fall. The average size of the Chinook can be from 16 to 20 lb. but you will see larger fish up to 55 lb. taken from the remote areas along the pacific coast. From BC Alaska you can catch the largest of the Chinook Fish up to 65 lb. which are common have been taken from the coastal areas. The Chinook will return to the river in which they spawned from at the age of 2 to 7 years old. The salmon will travel over 7000 miles at sea to return to its spawning grounds. One of the longest river spawns is the 2000 miles battle up the Yukon River located in the state of Alaska. With the advancement of man a lot of the smaller streams have been choked of with pollution and silt from local construction. Some of the streams have been filled in for housing and commercial use. There has been a increase of volunteers to clean up the streams and repair the gravel spawning grounds. With some success the salmon have slowly been returning to these devastated areas. The salmon use solar navigation, smell, day light and rain fall to help guide them to the spawning grounds. Most need a gravel bed of course gravel to spawn in. The female will dig out a spot and lay her eggs and the male will fertilize the eggs with jets of milt. Both fish die with in days of spawning. The spawning fish feed many bears, bird like the eagles and people on the run up to their spawning grounds. The decaying fish supply food for the river or stream organisms which provide food for the fry after the hatch. The fry will spend up to 18 months in the river and stream systems before heading out to sea to repeat the process all over Before you fish for salmon you will need to check the regulations in the area you are planning to fish in every area will have different regulations. Time to fish size limits and the number of the fish you may keep. State and Provincial Regulations must be followed as the fines can be very large if you get caught fishing with out the proper license or are out of season. Always check with the regulatory body for the area you will be fishing in. Better to have what you need than to lose a boat or vehicle or go to jail. If fishing in early spring or late summer or in the fall be aware that you may see bears of all sizes after all you are fishing in their favorite spot. Give them a wide berth they are hungry and will protect their territory. Better to play safe than to have a bad encounter you will lose if you come into contact with a bear. Trolling from a boat will help you avoid the bears. The down rigger is very popular to get the bait down to the level to which the salmon are at. Trolling depth will vary from 10 ft to 150 ft a lead cannon ball from 2 to 10 lb. will be used. Hootches and anchovies work in most locations but best to check with the local guides to find out what is working on the given days you are fishing. No matter what you fish with or which method you use a Chinook salmon will give you a fight you will not soon forget. Sammy Salmon has been having fun fishing for years and wants to share all his knowledge with you so be sure to visit him at Fishing-For-Fun Bob Matsen has been providing fishing and article content for 20 years. Organic Living – What’s That?

By Heather Dominick Hmmm what does organic living mean I like to think of it as taking time to BE instead of DO. The concept of being vs. doing can be difficult to grasp. We are really good at making To DO Lists, but who ever really makes a To BE List? Activities that allow us to connect with our hearts and feelings help us learn how to be and they are a mighty important contribution to living an EnergyRichlife. A helpful tool is making a Comfort List (ah-ha other things besides food that can create comfort!), things that bring joy and peace and keep you being good to your body. Here are a few things from my own list: Petting my cat as he cuddles on my lap Taking a hot bath Reading Oprah Magazine (I like it!) Walking in the woods Lighting candles before dinner Listening to the rain Browsing in a gem shop with my friend Shira Talking on the phone to my LA friend, Alexandra Watching the dusk fall Writing in my journal Making a meal with my boyfriend, Stephen The more we allow ourselves time for these comforting activities, the more connected we become to our bodies and our lives. Being in the moment is as organic as it can get. To your energy and success, Heather Energy~Nutrition Specialist Heather M. Easily Substitute Fats In Your Everyday Diet

By Gary Matthews Lets face it there are a lot of non-fat and low fat food substitutions on the market today, and also lots of substitutions that are not hard to figure out such as the cheeses, low fat cottage cheese compared to full cream cheese and tuna packed in brine instead of oil. Below is a list of tips for lower-fat substitutions that will please you and also help you in your entertaining. You can apply these substitutions in your everyday diet whether it is at work, home, or dining out. There are many ways to achieving a reduced fat diet. Here are some examples: Breakfast If you like butter or margarine on toast, only have it on the last slice you eat. If you don’t feel like a solid breakfast, have a fruit smoothie. Mix up your own cereal from two or three types and give your creation a name. Lunch If you eat lunch away from home, plan it the night before. Make sandwiches before you go to bed. Try some thick vegetable soup with a fresh bread roll to dip. Invest in a cool bag to keep your lunch fresh. Dinner Try oven-baked potato wedges with a salsa topping. Go for fresh pasta with a quick tomato and basil sauce. for dessert, have a piece of fresh fruit with a yoghurt topping. Snacks Salsa dip with pretzels Plain fruit loaf Yoghurt Vanilla dairy custard. Before a workout Small glass of fruit juice Banana and Custard Half a slice of toast with jam. After a workout Fruit/canned fruit Wheat Bites Rice cakes with honey. At Work On your desk – bottle of water or glass to use at the water dispenser. In your desk – piece of fruit, small pull-top can of baked beans/creamed corn/stewed fruit. Bring a few ingredients from home to be combined at work. Keep some cutlery where you work. On a Plane Order a special meal when you book your ticket. You’ll usually get served first. Ask for an extra roll or two. At the Hotel Take your own favourite cereal and reduced fat milk. Ask that the foods be removed from the snack bar. Eat your own low fat nibbles. Take-Aways Burger Bar – Plain grilled burger, skim milk milkshake. Pizza Parlour – Gourmet pizza with lots of veggies, go easy on the cheese. Kebab House – A little meat with a lot of salad. Sandwich Bar – Salad sandwiches/Rolls. Club – A little meat, heaps of mashed/jacked potato and veggies, pasta/rice. Indian – Lots of boiled rice, tikka, plain naan, dahl soup, raita. Chinese – Lots of boiled rice, chop suey, steamed dishes, plain noodles. Italian – Tomato-based dishes, plain bread. Suggestions in General * Record your food intake to identify problem areas. E.g. emotional eating, unwanted hunger cravings, over-eating. * Pay specific attention to the times when you over eat. * Try to avoid severe food restriction (like fasting, low calorie dieting). * When measuring your progress, monitor body fat levels, not weight, and throw the scale out. * Aim for slow fat loss (one pound / week) In conclusion, for the majority of us entertaining can be difficult owing to the food being too rich and loaded with calories but there can be a way by lowering the fat and maintaining the taste and this can be easier than you think. Turbulence Training – 3 Questions You Should Ask Before You Buy Turbulence Training

By Tim McIntyre Craig Ballantyne’s Turbulence Training diet and fitness plan has certainly caused some waves in recent months. But before you get caught up in the hype and rush out and buy Turbulence Training, here is a list of three questions that you should ask yourself first. Don’t buy Turbulence Training until you can answer yes to all of these questions. 1. Are you prepared to start a fitness and health plan that only involves doing exercise a few time a week? The core of the Turbulence Training plan is that the best way to get fit is to exercise only a few times a week. Rather than exercise in almost every day, instead you will exercise just a couple of times per week, but at a much higher intensity. Doing so will result in better results than if you exercise more regularly. This way of doing things may not suit everyone. If you enjoy going to the gym every day then you should probably not buy Craig Ballantyne’s Turbulence Training fitness plan. 2. Do you really want to get fit and lose weight? Craig Ballantyne’s Turbulence Training has been critically acclaimed, and has sold thousands of copies. And a lot of people who have bought Turbulence Training have lost a lot of weight and have gained a lot of muscle. But, as good as Craig Ballantynes’s Turbulence Training is you will not get fit unless you are determined to do so. Getting fit is hard. If you are not determined to do it, then you won’t succeed in achieving your goals. 3. Will you be able to stick to the Turbulence Training plan? Unlike other fitness plans, Craig Ballantyne’s Turbulence Training only requires you to perform exercise a couple of times per week. This is the perfect diet and fitness plan for anyone who lives a busy lifestyle and who find it hard to get to the gym. But if you think that exercising a couple of times per week is too much then you probably shouldn’t buy Turbulence Training. Craig Ballantyne’s Turbulence Training really is the perfect fitness plan for busy people with little time to get to the gym,. If you are happy only exercising a few time per week, and if you really want to lose weight, and if you will be able to stick to the plan, then I’d strongly recommend that you buy Turbulence Training. Tim McIntyre runs the friendly Healthy Living blog which aims to spread free healthy living fitness news, views and articles as far and wide as possible. Your Family is an Organization

By Judy H. Wright It is good to remember a family is an organization. In fact, it is the basic organization of society. This is just one of the reasons I am such a proponent of family meetings. You wouldnt think of running a successful business without a plan, goal setting meetings, team building sessions and clear missions and expectations. As such, everyone in the family should have an equivalent of a job description. Each persons job description helps him define his roles and responsibilities in the family. Just like in the workplace, the clearer the job description and the more input is solicited from the participant, the more ownership is established. If you have ever worked in a workplace where no one knew what their job was day to day and rules were arbitrary, you will recall how chaotic and frustrating it was for everyone. The following information on structuring a family council has been compiled in part from information contained in The Parents Handbook by Dinkmeyer & McKay, as well twenty five years of personal experience. WHAT IS A FAMILY COUNCIL? A family council is a regularly scheduled meeting of all family members. Its purpose is to make plans and decisions, to provide encouragement, and to solve problems. It is very much like a team building or staff meeting held in the workplace. Plans and decisions made during a family meeting remain in effect until the next meeting. FAMILY MEETINGS PROVIDE OPPORTUNITES TO: Be heard Convey positive feelings about one another Give encouragement Distribute chores fairly Set goals for the family unit and assist in personal goals Express concerns, feelings, and complaints Settle conflicts and dealing with recurring problems Plan family recreation Have fun GUIDELINES FOR EFFECTIVE FAMILY MEETINGS; Establish a specific weekly meeting time. Rotate chairperson and secretary. Establish and stick to time limits. Make sure all members have a chance to offer ideas. Encourage everyone to bring up issues. Dont permit meetings to become gripe sessions. Distribute chores fairly. Plan family fun. Use your communication skills. Use I statements Evaluate the meeting. Maintain an atmosphere of mutual respect and honesty. A TYPICAL AGENDA FOR FAMILY MEETINGS Share positive feelings about good things that have happened during the week. Read and discuss the minutes from the previous meeting. Discuss old business. Evaluate how assignments went for the week. Bring up new business (focusing on family fun as well as on plans and problems). Summarize and evaluate the meeting. Agreements as well as logical consequences for not following through with assignments should be discussed and agreed upon by the family. All members should be encouraged to participate in family meetings as equals. Family meetings are essential if families want to build strong relationships. Good luck and God bless. You do the most important work in the world. 2005 ArtichokePress.com Parent educator and PBS Ready to Learn consultant, Judy H. Anxiety Medication

By Richard Romando Anxiety medication helps reduce the symptoms of anxiety. They do not completely cure anxiety and every person responds individually to the medication. Various medications that are used in anxiety treatment are antidepressants, anti anxiety medications and beta-blockers. Anti depressants increase the level of serotonin, which is a brain chemical messenger, and this helps fight anxiety. The newest antidepressants that are used for anxiety treatment are called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). They are FDA approved and often used as the first line of treatment for anxiety. The three SSRIs antidepressants that have received the FDA approval for the treatment of social anxiety disorder are paroxetine (Paxil), sertraline (Zoloft) and venlafaxine (Effexor XR). Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are the oldest antidepressants, which have showed positive results in curing anxiety disorder. However, because of the side effects of this medicine (such as weight gain and insomnia), MAOIs are used only when other medications fail. Another antidepressant called tricyclics is also effective in treating anxiety disorder. When the treatment is begun, a low dosage of this medicine is prescribed; it is increased over a period of time, depending upon the effect it has on the individual. SSRIs are generally preferred because tricyclics can sometimes cause sexual dysfunction, dizziness and drowsiness. Anti anxiety medication are benzodiazepines, which relieve the symptoms of anxiety quickly and which calms the individual. Benzodiazepine includes drugs such as Xanax, Kalma, Restoril, Tranxene and Valium. They are fast acting medicines, but they do not have a long lasting effect. These medicines have side effects like drowsiness and fatigue. Benzodiazepines cannot be given over a long period of time, as a person can develop a tolerance to them and become dependent on them. Some people also experience withdrawal symptoms when they stop the use of these medicines. Buspirone (BuSpar), is another anti anxiety medicine which must be taken for at least two weeks for the effects to show. Beta-blockers such as Inderal and Tenormin are also used to treat anxiety. This medication is useful in performance anxiety that is predictable. They help alleviate heart palpitations, tremors, sweating, blushing and other physical symptoms of anxiety. It is generally recommended that these medications are taken an hour before the anxiety situation. However beta-blockers may not be a long-term treatment for curing negative thoughts that create anxiety. Anxiety provides detailed information on Anxiety, Anxiety and Panic Attacks, Anxiety Treatment, Depression and Anxiety and more. Anxiety is affiliated with Social Anxiety Disorder Symptoms. Let’s Fly Our Flag!

By Cyndi Roberts “The flag stands for all that we hold dear — freedom, democracy, government of the people, by the people, and for the people.” –Henry Cabot Lodge, 1915 No matter what political party one belongs to, or what one’s particular view is concerning the events in Iraq and the Middle East, the fact remains that our American soldiers are there. A good many of them are National Guard troops and reservists from the various states, who have been activated and are being deployed overseas to a war zone. These are soldiers who are taking time out from their lives and families to serve — the call has come and they are responding readily and whole-heartedly. Let’s all show our support for them and all our military personnel by flying our national flag every day. Remember, our flag should always be treated with the utmost care and respect. The flag represents a living country and, as such, is considered a living thing. Always display the flag with the blue union field up. Always hold the flag carefully — never let it touch anything beneath it. Always keep the flag aloft and free — never carry it flat or horizontally. Always keep the flag clean and safe — never let it become torn, soiled or damaged. Did you know: the U.S. flag was adopted on June 14, 1777, and is the fourth oldest national flag in the world. Join me in flying our national flag on the next flag holiday: Labor Day, September 6. The Soldier author unknown It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves under the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to disrespect the flag.
